Baseball age is the age of the child as of April 30th of the program year.
HASB Baseball League Descriptions
Babe Ruth - Babe Ruth is run by the Lamprey River Babe Ruth League. In addition to Hampstead, towns in this league have traditionally been Candia, Chester, Danville, Deerfield, Nottingham, Raymond, and Sandown. Babe Ruth games are played on a regulation size diamond. Base paths are 90 feet long and the mound to plate distance is 60’ 6”. Games are 7 innings long. This league is for players ages 13-15.
Major 70 - This division is the most competitive of all levels. Pitching distance is 50 feet from mound to plate and the base paths are 70 feet long. Major 70 will play by official playing rules including leading off, stealing, dropped third strikes, and balk rules. No more than eight 12 year olds will be on a team’s permanent roster. Pitch counts will be recorded and subsequent days of rest will be enforced. Games are 6 innings long. Double elimination playoffs occur at the end of the season (depending on standings). Hampstead Major 70 teams play in the Quintown league. The recommended age for players is 10-12.
Major 60 - In this competitive division, base paths are 60 feet long and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Stealing all bases is permitted. Dropped third strikes and balks are not called, however feedback will be provided for teaching purposes as the umpire sees fit. Pitch counts will be recorded and subsequent days of rest will be enforced. Games are 6 innings long. Double elimination playoffs occur at the end of the season (depending on standings). Hampstead Major 60 teams play in the Quintown league. The recommended age for players is 9-12.
Minors - This division furthers knowledge of the game of baseball as well as play for our developing players. Coaches will pitch for the first two innings. Players will pitch for the final four innings from a distance of 41 feet (46 feet if the pitcher is 9 years old). Strikes will be counted and innings will end after 3 outs. Base paths are 60 feet long. Stealing is allowed during “kid pitch”, but players cannot steal home. Playoffs do take place and are all “kid pitch”. Hampstead Minors teams play in the Quintown league. The recommended age for players is 8-9.
Rookie - Players in the Rookie division will be instructed on proper play with the intent to foster a love of the game. Coaches will pitch to the players or use a spring loaded pitching machine. No scores or standings are kept. This league is comprised of Hampstead teams as well as other local towns. The recommended age for players is 6-7.
Tee-ball - Tee-ball is a player’s first introduction to baseball. All players will hit from the tee. Each inning, both teams will bat their entire line up. No scores or standings are kept. Tee-ball is co-ed. This league is comprised of only Hampstead kids. The recommended age for players is 5-6.
